Mactan Shrine
August 14.2011
We decided to go there in Mactan Shrine,we ride on a jeep, each one of us pay P9.00. We did not spared the chance of visiting the famous significant historical landmark, the Mactan Shrine. Mactan Shrine or also known as Liberty Shrine lies on the ground where the actual battle took place between the Spaniards led by Ferdinand Magellan and the locals led by Lapu – lapu. The brave Filipino hero and his men repelled the Spanish invaders, killing famous navigator Ferdinand Magellan in April 27, 1521. Thus, Lapu – lapu became the first Filipino hero in the history. When we already got there,we are happy that the place is so beautiful.
There is no entrance fee in Mactan Shrine. However, the shrine management is asking for donations for the maintenance of Mactan Shrine. Donate to help in keeping the shrine well-maintained. Even spare change and coins would be enough as donations.

How to Go To Mactan Shrine

walk to the highway and ride a jeepney/multicab.Ask the driver to drop you at Mactan Shrine. The shrine is just beside the highway, which is the main road used by jeepney/multicabs, so going to the airport or downtown Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island is not a problem.

We meet Korean people and take the a picture together with us. It is the best experience that we have, they are so friendly and they take their time together with us. We also give thanks that they visit our country

.
This is the right place where to buy your souvenir items in Mactan. Items here is much lower price compared to what could be found in the souvenir shops inside the airport. For instance, the keychain here is just ten pesos a piece while the same keychains costs 100 pesos for 3 pieces. Common items for sale in the shops inside Mactan Shrine are necklaces and bracelets made of shell or stones, souvenir T-shirts, guitars, and other items that are made of shells, wood, stone .etc.

Magellan tried to convince Lapu Lapu to comply with Rajah Humabon's orders the night before the battle,Magellan and the Spaniards came into the island Mactan and tried to take over and force out their traditions and ruler. Needless to say... that did not go over well. The Battle of Mactan was fought in the Philippine. The warriors of Lapu-Lapu, a chieftain of Mactan Island, defeated Spanish sailors and soldiers under Portuguese sea captain and explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Magellan was killed by tribal warriors of Mactan, while being involved in political issues and rivalries with Lapu-Lapu.Beside it is a historical marker that states the heroism of Lapu-lapu on one side and speaks of the death of Magellan on the other side. Housed along with this marker is the artistic interpretation painting of the actual battle of Mactan. This painting name as Lapu-Lapu vs Ferdinand Magellan.

The Lapu-Lapu shrine is a 20-meter Bronze statue in Punta Engaño,Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines, erected in honor of Datu Lapu Lapu, a native leader who defeated Spanish soldiers and killed Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan on 1521

Few steps away from Lapu-Lapu’s statue is Magellan’s Monument. This monument is erected in 1866 to honor the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan (Hernando de Magallanes according to the monument). It is an obelisk with a base broadening like that of in a pyramid. This monument bears the words “Glorias Españolas.”

They also built new tourist attraction and some views to make the place more beautiful. Just look at the picture below.

Marigondon turns into a Mecca for beach-goers on weekend. In this interesting 24-hour beach resort-cum-restaurant called Parker's. Popular among foreigners, the place also attracts locals because of its fresh seafood fare.
Lunch is never a dull moment in Marigondon. Vendors selling all sorts of native foods like kinhason, takobo, and tihi-tihi continuously "patrol" the area, making sure you know what you're missing if you don't buy anything.
Nighttime at Parker's is when you see barong-clad professionals unwind after a long day at the office. You see them arrive by the carloads from far-off workplace starting at nine. Indeed, there's nothing more soothing than a beer or two after a day's work while watching the waves roll only two meters away from you.
